Blessed George Nappier

He was born in Oxford, studied at the grammar school and then went to Douai. He was a very charitable man and was ordained in 1596. In 1603 he was sent on the English Mission.

His normal mode of travel was on foot, but eventually informers brought him to the attention of the justice. He was put in the oxford gaol and later his execution fixed for 9 November, a Friday.

His crime, that he was a priest.

At 6 o'clock in the morning of the 9th he was told to prepare himself to die that afternoon, between 1 and 2pm.

And so he was taken on a hurdle to the place of execution where he made the sign of the cross, ascended the ladder, prayed for the king and refused to deny hid faith. He asked for prayers  and in sorrow for his sins he strike his breast 3 times and yielded his soul to God.

His head was set up on Christ Church steeple and his quarters upon the four gates of the city of Oxford on 9 November 1610.
