Blessed Robert Johnson

He was born in Shropshire and was a servant before going to study for the priesthood.

After ordination he returned to England in  1576.

We next hear of him in the Tower of London, December 5th 1580. He was cruelly racked three times, then, in the following November he was condemned to death, along with Fr Campion and others.

'Being brought from the hurdle, he was commanded to look upon Mr Shert, who was hanging, and then immediately cut down; and so being helped to the cart, he was commanded again to look back towards Mr Shert, who was then in quartering. He signed himself with the sign of the cross.'

His last prayers were the Pater, Ave and Creed. The other priest to be martyred on May 28, 1582 was Blessed Thomas Ford from Devon.

Two days later, again at Tyburn, four more priests were martyred: Saint Luke Kirby, Bl William Filby, Bl Laurence Richardson and Bl Thomas Cottam.
