Blessed Thomas Sherwood
Thomas was born in London. he was a woollen draper. His parents were good Catholics and were pleased when their son went to study for the priesthood at Douai in 1576.
He returned to England to settle his affairs but was betrayed by a young Catholic as being a Papist.
He was cast into a dungeon in the Tower, cruelly racked, put in chains and allowed to suffer from hunger, sold and stench.
After six months he was brought to trial and found guilty of denying the Queen's supremacy.
He was hung, drawn and quartered at Tyburn on February 7 1578 aged 27.
A prayer repeated in prison by him was;
'Lord Jesus! Oh I am not worthy that I should suffer these things for thee,
much less am I worthy of those rewards which Thou hast promised
to give to such as confess thee.'
